January 10, 2007, NEWBERRY, MICHIGAN - Charges have been filed against the father of the three-year-old Newberry girl who was mauled by a family dog last week. Twenty-seven-year-old Corey Wass of Newberry is charged with second degree felony child abuse.
The prosecutor says the father failed to properly supervise the girl. Authorities say the young girl wandered outside while the father was sleeping and was mauled by a rottweiler chained in the yard.
The toddler is recovering at a hospital in Ann Arbor. She was upgraded from critical to serious condition this week.
Wass could get up to four years in prison if convicted.
