Toddler Still In Critical Condition After Dog Mauling

May 9, 2005, PORTLAND, OREGON -- Three days after he was mauled by a family dog, a southeast Portland boy remains in critical condition.
Detectives are sill investigating the circumstances of the backyard attack, which happened Friday night in the 5200 block of Southeast 122nd Avenue.
Two pit bulls were chained up at the house. Police say the 23-month-old was playing nearby while the owner fed the dogs. The man says his son came too close, and one of the dogs attacked.
The pit bull is quarantined.
The boy is hospitalized with wounds to his head and neck.
