June 20, 2005, Huddersfield, UK -- A mother is calling for a dog to be destroyed after her little girl was savaged at a party.Three-year-old Kailey Mai Asquith is in hospital awaiting plastic surgery today after her face was ripped apart by a Staffordshire bull terrier on Saturday.
The attack happened at a house party on Coule Royd, Dalton, at about midnight.
Kailey had been at the party with her father, Darren, and eight-year-old sister Stacey when the dog - tied up in the garden - snapped and bit her face. She was taken to Huddersfield Royal Infirmary by ambulance and transferred to Bradford Royal Infirmary yesterday for specialist plastic surgery.
Her mum, Angela Asquith, 25, of Rawthorpe Crescent, said: "It is horrible and I am absolutely disgusted. My poor little girl has been bitten across her face. Her bottom eyelid has been ripped open and she has teeth marks in her nose, cheek and chin. They think she will have permanent scarring. I want that dog putting down because it is a danger to other children."
She said she was angry that the dog's owners had allowed it into the garden where partygoers were.
She added: "You don't have a vicious dog chained up in a garden where you have visitors and there are young children running around. The dog is bound to get angry with all those people about."
Angela, who is separated from Kailey's father, said nobody at the party had seen what happened, but some told her they heard the animal snap.
She said: "I am absolutely shocked by what has happened. I want people to know about it because people think they are good having these dogs to protect their house, but it is just not worth it."
A police spokeswoman said today: "Police were called to the scene and it is our understanding at the moment that the dog is to be destroyed.'
