4-year-old Attacked by Pit Bull in Serious Condition

March 24, 2005, HEFLIN, ALABAMA --. There's been another mauling incident involving a young child. A four-year-old Cleburne County boy was attacked by a chained pit bull yesterday afternoon at a residence on County Road 662, located between Helfin and Ranburne.
Sheriff Joe Jacks said the boy's grandmother struggled to separate the dog and child. He said a neighbor heard the woman's screams and was able to rescue the youngster.
Relatives said Pharis Fish suffered injuries to his upper body and is listed in serious condition today at Children's Hospital in Birmingham.
Authorities said the dog is being kept in a cage awaiting examination.
It's the third pit bull attack on an Alabama child in the past two months. In early February an eight-year-old boy was attacked in Gadsden. Earlier this month a three-year-old boy was mauled at his house in Chatom.
