January 13, 2005, BUCKLEY, ILLINOIS -- An 8-year-old Buckley girl received 55 stitches when she was attacked by an 85-pound Rottweiler-mix dog earlier this week. Tamra Kuester, daughter of Allan and Darla Kuester, 502 S. Elm St., was attacked by a dog owned by a neighbor about 5 p.m. Monday, police said.
Police Chief Jim Brammer said the girl was taken to Carle Foundation Hospital, Urbana, for treatment. Darla Kuester said it is not known if her daughter will suffer permanent damage, but she still has no feeling in one arm.
The mother said her daughter was bitten on both arms and her right leg. She said the girl was on her knees playing with dinosaur toys with a friend when the dog broke its chain and attacked her. The dog knocked her down and continued biting her after she got up and ran to the house, Darla Kuester said.
The year-old dog, owned by Tim Woodmansee, 506 S. Elm St., will remain at the Iroquois County pound for observation for 10 days to make sure it is not rabid. It will be euthanized because the owner, who also has small children, doesn't want it back.
"The dog had a very responsible owner," Brammer said. "The dog had been vaccinated for rabies." The chief said the dog had no history of attacking people.
"It was a family dog, a watch dog, but it had no history of this before," Brammer said.
