September 27, 2004, SCOTT TOWNSHIP, PA. -- A Scott Township woman found herself and her dogs being attacked by a pit bull that got loose Sunday.
The victim was treated at Allegheny General Hospital. She is going to be OK.
As for the pit bull, the owner said his dog is not vicious and isn't a danger to the neighborhood.
Clark Elwarner of Scott Township said this is the first time his 10-year-old pit bull, named Howie, has ever attacked anyone.
Scott Township police plan to cite Elwarner for failing to control his dog.
Police said the woman suffered deep lacerations on her arms, but her two dogs got it worse. In fact, family members said one of the dogs may not survive the vicious attack.
The owner of the pit bull said the dog is usually kept chained, but Sunday evening was locked inside the garage. The dog somehow triggered the door's opener and escaped.
One of the dogs sustained deep puncture wounds on his hind quarters.
As for the victim, she was bandaged from wrist to elbow.
It will be up to the local magistrate to decide on fines.
Meantime, the dog has been quarantined by its owner.
